PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team lost to No. 5 Syracuse, 2-1, in semifinal # 1 of the BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship. The Friars, who are the host team of the tournament, ended the season with a 10-10 record including a 3-3 mark during BIG EAST Conference play.
In the first half, Syracuse got on the board first at the 23:46 mark when Tracy Detrick scored off a deflection. The assist on the goal was credited to Heather Susek. Syracuse increased its lead to 2-0 on a goal by Amy Kee. The shot was lifted over the goalkeeper into the left side of the cage. Martina Loncarica provided the assist for Kee.
Adrienne Marois (Auburn, Mass.) scored her fifth goal of the season for the Friars at 38:12 mark. Despite holding the Orange scoreless and only allowing two shots in the second half the Friars were unable to push across a second goal.
Goalkeeper Rachel Chamberlain (Branford, Conn.) recorded four saves on for the Friars. Syracuse goalkeeper Leann provided one save in the victory.
Syracuse held the advantage in shots, 11-3, as well as penalty corners, 10-5.
