Field Hockey Takes On Villanova In Regular-Season Finale

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team concludes its regular-season schedule with a BIG EAST Conference match-up against Villanova on Saturday, Nov. 1 in Villanova, Pa. The game is scheduled to begin at Noon, and the winner of the match will claim the final spot in the BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship, which is slated for Nov. 7-9 in Providence, R.I.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE FIELD HOCKEY:

• The Friars enter Saturday's game against Villanova with a 10-8 record, and are coming off of a 6-3 victory against UMass Lowell on Oct. 26 in Providence, R.I.

• Senior Daniella Bernasconi (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) leads the Friars with 33 points on 14 goals and five assists. She tallied five points in the Friars' most recent game against UMass Lowell on Oct. 26, with two goals and one assist. She eclipses the 30-point mark for the second-straight season, and her 33 points in 2014 marks a single-season career high. Bernasconi also leads the team in scoring vs. BIG EAST opponents with 11 points on five goals and one assist.

• Freshman Megan Hamilton (Warrington, Pa.) is second among her teammates in scoring with 30 points on 13 goals and four assists. Senior Steph Guglielmo (Castle Rock, Colo.) follows in third with 27 points on 11 goals and five assists.

• Senior Henni Tietze (Sankt Augustin, Germany) and junior Emma Mackie (Delta, British Columbia) also have cracked double digits in the scoring column, with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Tietze has four goals and six assists, while Mackie has contributed three goals and six assists. The duo is tied for the team lead in assists, followed by three other Friars with five assists.

• Providence has scored 5+ goals in game six times this season and owns a team total of 58 goals heading into Saturday's match-up.

SCOUTING VILLANOVA:

• Villanova enters Saturday's game vs. Providence with a 4-12 overall record and a 1-3 mark in the BIG EAST Conference. The Wildcat's lone BIG EAST victory came against Georgetown on Oct. 17 (2-1, OT) in Villanova, Pa.

• Five Wildcats have cracked double digits in the scoring column this season, led by Jessica Swoboda and Abigail Freitag, who have each compiled 12 points. Swoboda owns a team-best six goals, while Freitag has recorded four goals and four assists. Heather Smillie and Francesca Bello have each chipped in four goals on the year.

• Jordyn Clipstone has played 1,114 minutes in the cage this season and owns a 2.89 goals against average and a 0.705 save percentage. She currently leads the league with 110 saves in 16 games.

• Three of Villanova's four victories on the season have come on their home turf, and include Missouri State (4-1), Saint Joseph's (5-2) and Georgetown (2-1, OT).
