BOSTON, MASS. - The Providence College field hockey fell to 19th-ranked Boston University, 3-0, on Sept. 13 at New Balance Field in Boston, Mass.
The Terriers scored all three of their goals on penalty corners, including two deflections from Sofi Laurito. Boston University took a 2-0 lead into halftime as Laurito scored her first of the day at 16:46. Rachel Coll put the Terriers up, 2-0, as she deflected the ball into the cage at the left post.
The Friars had their best offensive opportunity as time expired in the first half. Providence put a ball into the circle in the waning seconds of play, and directed it into the back of the cage. However, it was determined the ball did not cross the goal line in time, and BU secured its 2-0 lead heading into the break.
In the second half, the Friars out-shot the Terriers, 10-8, but were unable to find the back of the net to gain some momentum. The Terriers added an insurance goal in the 47th minute as Laurito connected on another deflection during a corner. Bea Baumberger was credited with an assist on each of the Terriers' goals.
The Friars return to action on Thursday, Sept. 17 against cross-city rival Brown. The game will be played at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. and is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.
