PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College sophomore forward Mikayla Michals (Needham, Mass.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for field hockey on Monday, Oct. 9. It marks the first time in Michals' career that she has earned weekly conference honors.
Last week, Michals scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory over BIG EAST Conference foe Quinnipiac. The Friars were awarded a penalty stroke in the 46th minute of play, and Michals stepped up to give her team a 2-0 lead. It marked her fourth goal of the season, and first penalty stroke conversion in her young career as a Friar.
The victory was critical, as Providence and Quinnipiac entered the game in a three-way tie for second place in the BIG EAST standings, along with Liberty. With three league games remaining on the schedule, Providence holds a 3-1 record in BIG EAST play and remains tied for second place in the conference with Liberty (3-1).
The squad will return to action on Friday, Oct. 13 against BIG EAST foe Georgetown. The game will be played at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. and is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
