PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the NCAA Northeast Regional race on Friday, November 14. The race will be held in Hopkinton, N.H. The women's 6k race will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by the men's 10k race at 12:00 p.m. The top two teams on the men's and women's side will automatically qualify for the 2025 NCAA Championships held in Columbia, Missouri.

The Friar women enter the race ranked third in the Northeast Region.
Leading the way for the women will be sophomore
Anna Gardiner (Downpatrick, Northern Ireland), sophomore Gabby Schmidt (Brisbane, Australia), freshman
Kate Currie (Christchurch, New Zealand), senior
Cara Laverty (Derry, Ireland) and sophomore
Emily Bush (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.). On Friday, October 31, the Friars finished third out of 11 teams at the BIG EAST Championships. Gardiner had a sixth-place finish (20:03.2), followed by Schmidt in 11th place (20:22.7), Currie in 12th (20:24.0), Laverty in 14th (20:27.6) and Bush in 18th (20:45.9). All five women earned All-BIG EAST honors for finishing in the top-20.
Also expected to compete at the Northeast Regionals will be seniors
Jane Buckley (Cork, Ireland) and Níamh O'Mahony (Kerry, Ireland).
The Friar women finished first out of 39 teams last year at the 2024 Northeast Regional race, led by a third-place finish from
Kimberley May (19:34.32). They then earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships.
The Friar men's team enters the race ranked seventh in the Northeast Region.
The men's team will be led by senior
Daniel Prescott (Christchuch, New Zealand) who finished 18th (24:02.30) at the BIG EAST Championship on Friday, October 31. Also leading the Friars will be sophomore
Elliott Pugh (Tauranga, New Zealand) who finished 20th (24:04.87) in the BIG EAST Championship on Friday, October 31. Both runners earned All-BIG EAST accolades. Prescott and Pugh will be joined by sophomore
Cormac Dixon (Dublin, Ireland), sophomore
Ryan LoCicero (Bloomfield, N.J.), sophomore
Liam McCay (Liverpool, England), freshman
Oliver Neate (Sydney, Australia) and junior
Will Johnston (Auckland, New Zealand).
At the 2024 Northeast Regionals, the Friar men finished sixth out of 38 teams, led by graduate student
Michael Morgan (Sligo, Ireland) with a 16th place finish (30:18.71).
