Commerce, Texas- The Providence College volleyball team was defeated by North Texas, 3-1, on Friday, August 29 in Commerce, Texas, in their second match of the Lion Invitational.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: North Texas earned a 25-16 victory in the first set.
- North Texas started the set with a 9-6 lead.
- The Friars tied the set at 10-10 after an ace by Macy Taylor.
- The Mean Green went on a 5-1 run to take a 15-11 lead.
- Providence narrowed the gap to 17-14 after a kill by Sophia Adkins.
- North Texas closed the set with an 8-2 run to win 25-16.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: North Texas won the second set, 25-23.
- Providence jumped out to a 4-1 lead.
- The two teams traded points to reach a tie at 13-13.
- A kill by Taylor tied the set again at 20-20.
- The Mean Green pulled away to win the set, 25-23.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence took the third set, 25-21.
- The Friars came out strong with a 7-0 lead.
- Providence maintained its lead at 10-4 with an ace by Taylor.
- A kill by Lyric Berry extended the lead to 17-14.
- Hadley Pride added a service ace to make it 21-17.
- Audrey Kocon ended the set with a kill to secure a 25-21 win.
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: North Texas took the fourth set, 25-13, and won the match 3-1.
- North Texas opened the set with a 9-4 lead.
- The Friars cut the deficit to 15-10 after a kill by Adkins.
- The Mean Green closed the match with a 10-3 run to win the set (25-13) and the match 3-1.
MATCH NOTES:
- Taylor, Kocon, and Adkins each tallied nine kills.
- Miller McDonald recorded 16 assists and four aces.
- Berry led the team in blocks with five.
- Hadley Pride posted 16 digs.
- The Friars totaled 38 kills, 55 digs, nine aces, and eight blocks.
