CHICAGO, ILL. – The Providence College women's basketball team overcame a 19-point deficit to defeat DePaul, 69-59, at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Ill. It marked the Friars first win all-time against DePaul in Chicago, snapping an 18-game winless streak on the Blue Demons' homecourt.
Sabou Gueye paced four Friars in double figures with 17 points.
Orlagh Gormley had an impressive line of 15 points, five rebounds, five assists and nine steals.
1ST QUARTER:
• DePaul took an 8-2 lead, forcing a Providence timeout with 7:57 on the clock.
• Freshman
Riley Hamburger scored the Friars' first field goal out of the timeout at the 7:37 mark.
• Gormley hit a lay-up to make it an 11-6 game, but DePaul used an 8-0 run to claim a 19-6 advantage with 3:10 on the clock.
•
Sophi Hall halted the run at the free throw line, hitting 2-3 attempts after being fouled on a three-point shot.
• DePaul was scoreless over the final 3:09 of the quarter and Providence was scoreless over the final 2:08 of the frame.
• DePaul held a 19-8 lead at the break as the Friars shot just 15-percent from the field (2-13).
2ND QUARTER:
• DePaul used an 8-0 run to force a Providence timeout and take a 33-14 lead. The Blue Demons hit four three pointers in the opening 4:20 of the quarter, including two during the 8-0 run.
• Providence responded with a 9-0 run during a span of 1:11 to get within 10 with 4:05 on the clock (33-23).
• A three from Gueye got Providence back within single digits (41-32) with 1:07 on the clock.
• The Blue Demons took a 43-32 lead into halftime after shooting a blistering 69-percent from three-point territory (9-13). DePaul entered the game shooting just 26-percent on the season (79-303).
3RD QUARTER:
• The Friars started the third with a 5-0 run to get within six (43-37).
• The Blue Demons' lead remained six at the media timeout (47-41) with 4:34 on the clock.
• A 6-0 run by the Friars tied the game, 49-49, with 36-seconds left before DePaul's Kate Novik scored the go-ahead hoop to give the Blue Demons a 51-49 lead at the break.
• Providence outscored DePaul 17-8 in the third quarter.
• Gormley scored eight points in the quarter for Providence.
4TH QUARTER:
• A three from the left wing by
Sophi Hall at the 5:19 mark gave Providence its first lead of the game (54-53).

Ashley Dinges drained a three with 3:09 to play to put the Friars up by five (59-55).
• DePaul hit 2-4 free throws from the line to get back within two (59-57).
• Hall answered with her second triple of the quarter to give Providence a 62-57 lead with 2:23 to play.
• The teams traded baskets helping Providence to maintain its five-point advantage (64-59).
• Gormley hit 5-6 foul shots down the stretch propelling Providence to a 10-point win.
• Gormley scored the Friars' final seven points in the last 54 seconds of play.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Gueye led the Friars with 17 points and added three boards, five assists, three blocked shots and one steal.
• Gormley matched her career-high in scoring with 15 points and added 5 boards, five assists and career-high nine steals. Her nine steals are the most by a Friar since Sarah Beal collected 10 on Dec. 12, 2009 vs. Bryant.
• Gormley has dished 5+ assists in nine games this season.

Teneisia Brown recorded 12 points, three boards, one assist, one block and one steal.
• Hall scored in double figures for the second game this season, finishing with 11 points.
• Providence had four players in double figures in the scoring column for the first time this season.
• The Friars defeated DePaul in Chicago, Ill. for the first time in program history. The Blue Demons held a 18-0 record vs. Providence in games played in Chicago, including a 11-0 record at McGrath-Phillips Arena and a 7-0 mark at Wintrust Arena.
