Andrew Centrella tied the game with 5.5 seconds left in regulation and
Logan Sawyer scored the game-winning goal in overtime as the No. 9 Providence College men's hockey team rallied for a 3-2 win on the road against Maine at Alfond Arena on Saturday (Jan. 31).
- Justin Poirier gave the Black Bears an early lead at 4:45 of the first period.
- The Friars responded at the 9:01 mark as
Alex Rybakov finished off a rebound from
Tomas Machu for his third goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1.
Jonathan Fauchon registered the secondary assist on the play.
- Maine re-gained the lead at 16:47 of the first period on a goal from Loic Usereau to take a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes of play.
- The teams played nearly 40 more minutes of scoreless play until the closing seconds.

Andrew Centrella capped a furious attack with Parsons pulled for an extra attacker, as he buried a cross-ice feed from
Roger McQueen with 5.5 seconds left in regulation. The goal was Centrella's third of the season.

Scouting the Wildcats:
- New Hampshire enters Friday's game against the Friars at 11-13-1 overall and 5-9-1 in Hockey East coming off an 0-1-1 weekend against Merrimack. The Wildcats were 1-6-1 during the month of January.
- The Wildcats are led by senior Morgan Winters (9-9-18), Nick Ring (6-11-17) and Jacob Newcombe (7-5-12).
- In goal, senior Kyle Chauvette is 10-12-1 with a 2.53 GAA and .902 save percentage in 24 appearances this season.
- In his eighth season in Durham, Head Coach Mike Souza has posted a 102-128-28 record.

Series History vs. New Hampshire (72-93-18, .443)
- Providence and New Hampshire kick-off the first of three meetings this season with a single game in Durhan on Friday night. The teams will conclude the series in home-and-home set from Feb. 27-28.
- The Friars are unbeaten in the last five games against the Wildcats (4-0-1) and are unbeaten in the last three at the Whittemore Center (1-0-2).
- Providence is 27-55-8 all-time on the road against UNH and 11-25-4 since the opening of the Whittemore Center in 1995-96.

Scouting the Catamounts:
- Vermont enters Saturday night's contest at 11-14-0 (6-9-0 HEA) after completing a two-game home sweep vs. Stonehill last weekend by scores of 3-2 (OT) and 2-0. The Catamounts posted a 6-3-0 record during the month of January.
- The Catamounts are paced by Colin Kessler (3-13-16), Jens Richards (5-6-11), and Sebastian Tornqvist (3-7-10).
- In goal, freshman Aidan Wright has posted a 10-11-0 record with a 2.75 GAA and .907 save percentage in 22 games played.
- In his third season in Burlington, Head Coach Steve Wiedler has posted a 35-54-6 record.

Series History vs. Vermont (37-28-13, .558)
- Going into Saturday's contest, the Friars are riding a 16-game unbeaten streak (11-0-5) against the Catamounts dating back to the 2018-19 season. Vermont's last victory over the Friars came on Feb. 1, 2019, where the Catamounts topped Providence 3-1 at Schneider Arena.
- The Friars earned overtime and shootout wins against the Catamounts in Burlington last season. The teams meet this weekend for the first of three meetings occurring in the month of February. Providence will visit Vermont for a two-game series from Feb. 20-21.
- The Friars are 17-11-9 all-time at home against the Catamounts.

Roger McQueen Nominated For The 2026 Hobey Baker Award
Providence College freshman
Roger McQueen was named as the Friars' nominee for the 2026 Hobey Baker Award. The 10th overall pick of the 2025 NHL Draft of the Anaheim Ducks leads Providence in scoring this season with 23 points on eight goals and 15 assists. He has totaled six multi-point games this season, including a career-high three points on two goals and one assist against Merrimack on Nov. 14. In Hockey East games, McQueen has totaled six goals and nine assists in 15 games with a +12 rating. He ranks third in Hockey East with 258 faceoff wins.

Jack Parsons Earns National and Hockey East Goaltender of the Month Honors
Providence College freshman goaltender
Jack Parsons (Cortland, N.Y.) was named HCA National Rookie of the Month and Stop It Goaltending Hockey East Goaltender of the Month for January. Parsons went a perfect 7-0-0, tied for the most wins of among all NCAA goaltenders in January, after stepping in the Friars net due to injury to Philip Svedebäck. He posted two shutouts and has Providence riding a seven-game winning streak, all against nationally ranked Hockey East opponents. Parsons registered a 1.87 GAA and .931 save percentage in eight games during the month of January. He is the first Friar rookie to earn National Monthly honors since Jon Gillies in 2013.

Former Friar Nick Saracino '16 Named To Italy's Roster For 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics
Former Providence College men's hockey national champion Nick Saracino '16 (St. Louis, Mo.) was named to Italy's roster for the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Games set to run from Feb. 5-19. Saracino becomes the second men's hockey player to participate in the Olympics for Italy, joining Gates Orlando (1992, 1994, 1998).

Goaltender Michael Simpson Added To The Roster
Michael Simpson joins the Friars after spending this season with the Savannah Ghost Pirates of the ECHL. With Savannah, Simpson recorded a 2.63 GAA and .909 save percentage in 10 games played. He participated in training camp with the Florida Panthers prior to the start of this season. In 2024-25, he appeared in a total of 16 games split between Belleville (AHL) and Orlando (ECHL). The two-time OHL Champion won titles with the Peterborough Petes in 2022-23, alongside current Friar
Donovan McCoy, and a championship the following season with the London Knights in 2023-24. He earned the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award as OHL Playoff MVP with Peterborough in 2023 after turning in a pair of 50-save performances during the OHL Championship Series. He guided London to an OHL title and a runner-up finish in the Memorial Cup in 2024, winning the Happ Emms Memorial Trophy as the Most Outstanding Goaltender of the Memorial Cup. Simpson was a two-time OHL All-Star Team selection in 2023 (Third Team) and 2024 (Second Team).

The Friars are the ninth tallest roster in the NCAA (6'1"), seventh youngest (21.1 years). Providence is just one of only three programs to have one senior on their roster. The Friars boasted the sixth-most NHL players that appeared in games during the 2024-25 season with 14 total.

The Saskatchewan Connection
Three members of this year's roster hail from Saskatchewan -
Hudson Malinoski,
Roger McQueen and
Quinn Mantei. Malinoski and McQueen are childhood friends and played together with the Saskatoon Blazers AAA squad in 2021-22. Mantei and McQueen were teammates with the Brandon Wheat Kings from 2022-25.
