Friars will host New Haven on Friday, Sept. 4 at 3:00 p.m. before closing the weekend at Bryant on Sunday, Sept. 6 at Noon.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team will play a pair of non-conference games this weekend. On Friday, Sept. 4, the Friars will host New Haven at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+. An international stream also will be available on Friars.com. Providence will close the weekend against Bryant University on Sunday, Sept. 6 at Noon in Smithfield, R.I.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE COLLEGE (1-1):
• Providence College enters week two of the 2026 season with a 1-1 record.
• Providence fell to Boston College, 3-1, in Newton, Mass. on Aug. 28 before engineering a 3-2 come-back victory over Boston University on Aug. 30 in Providence, R.I.
• The Friars defeated Boston University in consecutive games for the first time since the 1989 and 1990 seasons. Last year, Providence claimed a 3-2 victory, in a shootout, over BU in Boston, Mass.
• Freshman Rhylee Givens scored the Friars' lone goal in the season opener vs. Boston College on a penalty stroke. It marked her first collegiate goal.
• Senior Carly van Benten recorded the first multi-goal game of her career during Providence's win over Boston University.
• Senior Charlotte Lorden rounds out of the list of goal scorers for Providence through the first two games of the season, while junior Piper Cline registered the team's lone assist.
• The Friars returned 97-percent of their offensive production from last season, accounting for 35 of the team's 36 goals and 30 of the team's 31 assists in 2025.
• Seniors Bo Martina and Lily Procaccianti each eclipsed the 20-point mark last season. Martina finished with 22 points on nine goals and four assists, while Procaccianti paced Providence with 10 goals and added one assist for 21 points.
• Procaccianti is the first player to record 10-or-more goals in a season since 2014. That year, Daniella Bernasconi (15), Megan Hamilton (15) and Steph Guglielmo (13) all recorded double-digit goals.
• Van Benten finished third on the team in scoring with 18 points on five goals and a team-best eight assists.
• Martina was named Preseason BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year on Aug. 19. She also was a unanimous selection on the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.
• Van Benten joined Martina on the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.
• Last season, Martina claimed All-BIG EAST First-Team honors and was named BIG EAST Co-Midfielder of the Year. She is the first player in program history to earn BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year honors and is one of 12 players in program history to be named to the first team in multiple seasons (2024, 2025).
• Van Benten earned All-BIG EAST Second-Team honors in 2025.
• Sophomore Ava Porter is the lone returning goalkeeper for the Friars in 2026 and will be joined by graduate transfer Pauline Gineste, who spent the previous four seasons at American.
• As a freshman, Porter started 16 games for the Friars and posted an 8-8 record with two shut-out victories. She registered a 1.64 goals against average and a 0.748 save percentage.
• Gineste started 17 games last season for the Eagles and posted a 10-5 overall record, including a 6-0 mark in the Patriot League. She registered four shut-out victories, a 1.14 goals against average and a 0.767 save percentage.
• Porter started each of the Friars first two games and owns a 2.00 goals against average and a 0.600 save percentage.
SCOUTING NEW HAVEN (1-1):
• The Chargers are in the midst of their second season of NCAA Division I status.
• New Haven enters Friday's match with a 1-1 record.
• The Chargers fell to Colgate, 5-0, in their season opener on Aug. 28. The team responded with a 4-0 win vs. NCAA Division II St. Thomas Aquinas College on Aug. 30.
• Emma Beaujouan and Jalia Cooper have each recorded a team-best three points this season on one goal and one assist.
• Lauren Schoonmaker leads the team in assists (two).
• Rae Kline has played all 120 minutes in goal for New Haven and owns a 2.50 goals against average and 0.706 save percentage.
SCOUTING BRYANT UNIVERSITY (1-1):
• Bryant enters the weekend with a 1-1 overall record and will face Merrimack on Friday, Sept. 4 before hosting the Friars on Sunday in Smithfield.
• Emerson Johnson leads the Bulldogs' offense with three points on one goal and one assist.
• Johnson scored the game-winning goal with 23-seconds left in regulation to help Bryant defeat Hofstra, 2-1, on Aug. 30.
• Maddy DeFilipo and Valentina Funes have each scored one goal for the Bulldogs this season.
• Maud van Lierop has started each game in goal for Bryant and owns a 1.54 goals against average and a 0.667 save percentage.
• Bryant Head Coach Kellie Joyce enters her second season on the sidelines at Bryant. She spent four seasons on Diane Madl's staff (2018-21).
• Asia Porter, who played five seasons as a goalkeeper at Providence College from 2020-24, also patrols the sidelines at Bryant as a graduate assistant coach. She played 74 career games for the Friars overall. Porter is the older sister of current Friar sophomore goalkeeper Ava Porter.
