PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- It was announced on November 2 that four Providence College field hockey players earned BIG EAST accolades. Senior Breanne Wojnarowicz (Holden, Mass.), senior Julie Tanguay (Bow, N.H.), junior Katie Willett (Biddeford, Maine) and freshman Stefanie Suehnholz (Flemington, N.J.) all were honored at the annual BIG EAST Field Hockey Banquet in Storrs, Conn.
Wojnarowicz, the Friars' top scorer, was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team. It marks the second consecutive season that she has earned All-BIG EAST First Team accolades. In addition to leading the team in scoring with 22 points, she also leads the squad in goals with 10. Wojnarowicz, a graduate of Notre Dame Academy, is the daughter of John and Kathleen Wojnarowicz.
Tanguay was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team. The senior back is one of the Friars' top defensive players this season. She leads the squad with five defensive saves. Tanguay also has registered one goal and six assists in 20 games. Tanguay, a graduate of Concord High School, is the daughter of Paulette and Richard Tanguay.
Willett earned All-BIG EAST Second Team accolades for the second consecutive season. She has received BIG EAST honors in each season at Providence. She was named to the All-Rookie Team in 1998. This season, she has started all 20 games and registered one goal. Willett, a graduate of Biddeford High School, is the daughter of Kathleen and Michael Willett.
Suehnholz, one of PC's top forwards this season, was named to the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team. The rookie sensation is second on the team in scoring with 11 points (four goals, three assists). She has started 18 of the team's 20 games. Suehnholz, a graduate of Hunterdon Central High School, is the daughter of Raymond and Elaine Suehnholz.
Providence, 6-14, will return to action on Friday, November 3 against Rutgers at 7:00 p.m. in the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament at Storrs, Conn. The winner will play the winner of the Syracuse/Connecticut game in the Championship on Sunday, November 5 at Noon.
