PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College senior goaltender Brian McCarthy of Townsend, Mass., was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Goaltender of the Week on Tuesday, March 21.
McCarthy received the Goaltender of the Week honor after making 37 saves and leading the Friar lacrosse team to two overtime wins last week. On March 15, he registered 15 saves in PC's 10-9 overtime win against Sacred Heart. On March 19, McCarthy recorded a season-high 22 stops in PC's 10-9 overtime win versus Quinnipiac. In two wins last week, McCarthy registered a 8.74 goals against average and a .673 save percentage.
In four games this season, McCarthy has posted a 4-0 mark, 53 saves, a 7.82 goals against average and a .654 save percentage.
McCarthy, a 1996 graduate of the Bishop Guertin High School, is the son of Charles and Kathleen McCarthy.
The Friars, 4-0 overall and 3-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action, return to action on Wednesday, March 22 at Siena at 3:00 p.m.
