Fairfield, Conn. -- Jami Servidone stroked four hits while Kerri Jacklets added two more hits as the Friars softball team won a doubleheader at Fairfield University, 2-1 and 9-1. Jacklets recorded a grand slam home run in the nightcap.
In the opener, Fairfield's pitcher Melissa Santos appeared to be in control as she did not allow a hit until the fourth inning. Unfortunately, that first hit was a double off the right field fence which sent home Nicole Nelson, who reached on an error. The next batter, Heather Nathan, followed with a double to right-center field, making the score 2-0.
Fairfield cut the lead in half with a run in the fifth frame as Keri Giangrande scored on Karyn Kennedy's base hit up the middle. Fairfield threatened in the bottom of the seventh with a runner on third base, but failed to score. Santos finished the game with eight strikeouts, one off her career high.
Providence won the second game by a 9-1 count, propelled by a grand slam in the top of the fifth inning by Kerri Jacklets. Fairfield scored its only run of the game in the fourth inning when Kelly Ellis scored off an RBI single by Dominique Kostecki.
