Today’s win marks the most BIG EAST wins in program history.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence college softball team (25-15, 14-3 BIG EAST) defeated Villanova (11-37, 5-15 BIG EAST) in game two of a three-game series on Saturday, April 25 at Glay Field. With the win, Providence improved to 14-3 in BIG EAST play, breaking the program record for most conference wins in a single season.
 
GAME NOTES:
  • Julia Renny (Syosset, N.Y.) recorded a three-run home run in the bottom of the third for Providence to take a 3-0 lead.
  • The Friars added two runs in the fifth inning behind an RBI by Renny and Emily Jonte (Allen, Texas) scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-0.
  • Villanova got on the board in the top of the sixth inning with a run (5-1).
  • Jonte added an RB I double in the bottom of the sixth to extend the Friars' lead to 6-1.
  • The Wildcats added a run in the top of the seventh but could not complete the comeback and Providence won, 6-2.
  • Addy Frye (New Castle, Pa.) recorded the win for the Friars, tossing five strikeouts in 6 innings of work.

The Friars return to action on Sunday, April 26, for game three against Villanova. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.at Glay Field, with the game streaming on Friars Live.
