ROAD TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP... The winner of Thursday's First
Round game between No. 1 Providence and No. 4 Butler will ad-
vance to play in the Semifinal match against the winner of No.2 seed
UConn and No. 3 seed Creighton on Friday, May 8. at 1:00 p.m. CT
(2:00 p.m. ET).
PROVIDENCE VS. BUTLER IN 2026
PC trails: 1-2
Thursday's contest will mark the first encounter between the two
teams in postseason play since last season when the Friars won 7-0
in an elimination game with the Bulldogs.
PROVIDENCE COLLEGE AT THE BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIP...
• Providence captured the BIG EAST Tournament title in 1994.
• The Friars hold an all-time record of 12-18 in the BIG EAST Tourna-
ment.
• Providence has two runner-up finishes. The Friars reached the title
game in 1992, losing 2-1 to UConn. The Friars advanced to the title
game in 1995 for the second-consecutive season before losing to
UConn, 3-1.
• The Friars reached the BIG EAST Softball Championship in 2025,
where they fell, 5-4, in the semifinals to Creighton.
• Prior to last season, the Friars' last appearance in the BIG EAST
Semifinals was in 2019 against DePaul. Providence fell to the Blue
Demons, 4-0.
• Last year's run in the BIG EAST Tournament marked third-year Head
Coach Kelsey Christensen's BIG EAST Championship debut.
• In 2025, the Friars claimed a historic, 10-9, win in eight innings in
which the Friars overcame a seven-run deficit to upset the No. 3-Seed
and defending BIG EAST Champions, Villanova.
• The win marked the Friars first postseason win in 30 years.
• The Friars went on to play UConn in the quarterfinal where they
lost, 5-4. Providence went on to win two-straight elimination games
over Butler, 7-0, and top-seeded St. John's, 10-0, to advance to the
Semifinal game.
FRIARS ALL TIME VS. THE FIELD IN BIG EAST TOURNAMENT...
• Providence played all three teams in the 2026 BIG EAST Tournament
last season in the 2025 BIG EAST Tournament.
• The matchups between Creighton and Butler in last season's BIG
EAST Tournament marked the first time Providence had played ei-
ther team in the postseason.
• The Friars are 1-0 all-time against Butler in the BIG EAST Tourna-
ment, 0-1 against Creighton and 2-8 against UConn.
• This season, the Friars have posted a 5-4 record against the teams
competing in the 2026 BIG EAST Tournament. Providence went 2-1
against Creighton and UConn, while going 1-2 against Butler last
weekend.
PROVIDENCE CLAIMS FIRST BIG EAST REGULAR SEASON TITLE...
• After going 18-6 in conference play, Providence secured a share of
its first BIG EAST Regular Season title in program history.
• The Friars clinched the No. 1 seed for the 2026 BIG EAST Tourna-
ment for the first time in program history.
• The Friars have a share of the title with UConn, as they went 2-1
against the Huskies this season.
CONFERENCE PLAY... Providence won 18 of its conference games
to clinch the No. 1 seed in the BIG EAST Softball Championship for
the first time in program history. Heading into the final weekend of
BIG EAST play, Providence sat in contention with two other teams
(UConn & CU) but was able to secure the first-seed after holding the
tie-breaker over UConn.
PROVIDENCE'S HISTORIC SEASON...
• Providence enters the BIG EAST Tournament having won 25 of its
last 32 games.
• The Friars opened BIG EAST play with a program-best 7-1 start.
• Additionally, they had an eight-game winning streak which tied a
program record earlier this season.
• The Friars' 18 conference wins also is a program record.
• Providence has posted an 18-2 record at home on Glay Field.
• The team won 11-straight games at home before falling to George-
town on April 28.
• The Friars went 3-0 against schools from Rhode Island. Beating Bry-
ant, twice, and Brown once.
TEAM EFFORT...
• Providence set a program record for single-season runs scored
(276). Previously, the record was 267 by the 2017 team.
• The Friars have broken the program record for walks (189). Previous-
ly, the record was 177, also by the 2017 team.
• The Friars have hit 56 home runs, two shy of the program record of
58, which was set by the 2011 team.
• As a team, Providence is hitting .298. The single-season program
record for team batting average was set in 2017 (.293).
• In the field, Providence is at a .958 FLD%. The program record stands
at .969.
CAMERON DUNN MAKES PROGRAM HISTORY...
• Junior Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) is top six in the BIG EAST in
batting average, slugging percentage, on base percentage, OPS, RBI
and home runs.
• On Wednesday, April 15, Dunn recorded her 13th home run of the
season, breaking the program's single season record.
• The record was previously held by four Friars. Jacque Harrington
('22), Nicole Lundstrom ('17), Kristie Dederick ('15) and Rachel Bar-
tholomew ('06) all recorded 12 home runs in a single season for Prov-
idence.
• Dunn currently sits at 15 home runs on the season, which ranks
third in the BIG EAST.
• Dunn is batting .412, which ranks in the top five at PC for a single
season. She currently ranks second in single season program history.
The .412 batting average also puts her at second in the BIG EAST this
season.
• Dunn has a slugging percentage of .838, putting her at second in
the BIG EAST this season.
• Dunn is also third in walks in a single season with 29.
• Dunn has 56 hits this season. She is nine hits away from cracking the
top three for single season hits.
• All-time, Dunn is third in program history with 25 home runs and is
three RBI away from cracking the top five in all-time RBI. She current-
ly sits at 104 career RBI.
•This season, Dunn has been recognized five times on the BIG EASTWeekly Honor Roll.
• Dunn's efforts in the regular season earned her a spot on the All-BIG
EAST Second Team.
GABBY LEE SPORTSCENTER TOP 10 PLAY...
• Earlier this season, Senior Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.) was fea-
tured on SportsCenter Top 10 Plays for her diving catch against
Brown on April 15. The play came in at number six on the list.
THREE PLAYERS SURPASS 100 HITS...
• Earlier this season, three Providence College softball players sur-
passed 100-career hits.
• Seniors Sofia Peterson (Bordentown, N.J.) and Elisa Smith (Glenn Al-
len, Va.) and Dunn all recorded their 100th hit.
• Peterson and Smith both reached the milestone in a series against
UConn on April 17-18.
• Dunn reached it on April 8 against Boston University.
PITCHING DOMINANCE...
• Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.) enters the BIG EAST Tournament with
a team-high 12 wins.
• Twomey has pitched 88.1 innings, posted a 3.09 ERA while holding
opponents to a .234 batting average and recording 68 strikeouts.
• In BIG EAST play, Twomey ranks second in ERA (2.22) and first in
opponent batting average (.206).
• Twomey tallied a season-high seven strikeouts in a win over Villano-
va earlier this year.
• Twomey's effort in the regular season earned her the 2026 BIG EAST
Pitcher of the Year honors and a spot on the All-BIG EAST First Team.
• Freshman Addyson Frye (New Castle, Pa.) ranks third among the
staff in ERA (4.18).
• In BIG EAST play, Frye ranked fifth in ERA (2.88) and sixth in oppo-
nent batting average (.269).
• Frye was awarded BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week on April 20th.
SIX FRIARS EARN BIG EAST RECOGNITION...
• Junior Alyssa Twomey earned BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year and was
named to the All-BIG EAST First Team.
• Joining Twomey on the First Team was senior Emily Jonte (Allen,
Texas). In BIG EAST play, Jonte posted a .403 batting average, while
starting in all 24 conference games.
• Dunn, Peterson, Julia Renny (Syosset, N.Y.) and freshman Hailey
Frantz (Danville, Calif.) were all named to the All-BIG EAST Second
Team.
• Twomey earned the program's first BIG EAST major award since
2019, when Daniela Alvarez was named Co-Freshman of the Year.
• Twomey is the program's first BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year honoree.
• Providence's two First-Team selections mark the first time since 2016
that two Friars have been named to the First Team in a single-season.
• The Providence Coaching Staff was named BIG EAST Coaching
Staff of the Year for the first time in program history. Third-year Head
Coach Kelsey Christensen is assisted by pitching coach, Taran Alvelo,
assistant coach Aleima Lopez and graduate assistant Brendan Mo-
rales.
• The Friars six All-BIG EAST selections are the tied for the most in
program history. In 1994 and 1995, the Friars had six selections each.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS...
• Butler enters the tournament with a 24-19 overall record, including
a 15-9 mark in BIG EAST play.
• Most recently, Butler won a three-game series against Providence,
2-1, to conclude the regular season.
• Offensively, the Bulldogs are led by All-BIG EAST First Team selec-
tions Makenna Alexander, Hailey Conger and Cate Lehner.
• Alexander leads the BIG EAST with a .434 batting average, .885 slug-
ging percentage, .544 on-base percentage and 58 RBI.
• Conger has scored a team-high 53 runs, ranking second in the BIG
EAST, while batting .408 on the season.
• Lehner leads the team in home runs, with 14, which ranks fourth in
the BIG EAST.
• In the circle, All-BIG EAST Second Team selection Maren Berger
leads the pitching staff with a 4-5 record, 4.63 ERA and 30 strikeouts
across 68.0 innings of work.
