PROVIDENCE, R.I. -Â The Providence College softball team (26-15, 15-3 BIG EAST) defeated Villanova (11-38, 5-16 BIG EAST), 6-3, in game three of a three-game series on Sunday, April 26 at Glay Field. With the win, Providence clinched a spot in the 2026 BIG EAST Softball Championships.
Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) recorded a game-high three RBI, while
Sofia Peterson (Bordentown, N.J.) added two hits and two RBI. Â
GAME NOTES
• Peterson reached on an infield single, driving in
Emily Jonte (Allen, Texas) as the Friars jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
• With the bases loaded in the second inning, Dunn hit a base-clearing double to right field. Jonte,
Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.) and
Dominique Gallardo (Lexington, S.C.) crossed the plate as Providence took a 4-0 lead.
• Providence scored on the following two at-bats and extended its lead to 6-0.
Julia Renny (Syosset, N.Y.) doubled to left field and drove in Dunn, while Peterson hit a single to center and brought Renny across the plate.
• In the third inning, Villanova posted two runs and cut the deficit to 6-2.
• The Wildcats tacked on another run in the sixth inning as the Friars held a 6-3 lead.
• In the circle, junior
Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.) got the start and earned the win. She posted four strikeouts and only allowed one hit. She was later relieved by
Tori Grifone (Sussex, N.J.), who pitched for the game's final five outs. Â

ON DECK… The Friars return to action on Tuesday, April 28, for a three-game series against Georgetown. The teams will play a doubleheader on Tuesday. Game one is set for 3:00 p.m. and game two at 5:30 p.m. at Glay Field, with both games streaming on FriarsLive.
