Cancelled Event: Softball versus Tarleton State

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Megan Wargin stroked four hits while Gwyn Mangini added three as the Providence College softball team defeated Sacred Heart, 2-1 (nine innings) and 8-0 (five innings) this afternoon in Providence, R.I.
In game one, the Friars got on the board first in the bottom of the fifth inning, as Kerri Jacklets knocked a RBI single to bring in Bonnie Skrenta. The Pioneers responded in the top of the sixth with right fielder scoring on a fielder's choice. The tie was finally broken in the bottom of the ninth with Nicole Nelson bringing in Wargin.
Providence's Missy Peterson improved to 5-3 on the mound after only giving up one hit and one unearned run in nine innings. Sacred Heart's Michele Walker fell to 2-8 on the season.
In game two, the Friars scored four runs in the bottom of the second, led by Nelson's two RBI double. Lynnette Rosa also had a RBI double in the third to allow Amber Carr to score. Jacklets then scored on a wild pitch in the fourth to put them up, 6-0. Wargin and Rosa then ended the game in the fifth inning with their two runs.
Peterson also pitched the second game, only giving up two hits for a 6-3 record for the season. Stacey Garrity fell to 0-9 after allowing seven hits and four runs in two innings, while Ann Snellinger completed the game, giving up five hits and four earned runs in the final 2.2 innings.
Providence returns to action on Saturday, April 1, when they travel to Pittsburgh, PA, to take on the Panthers of the University of Pittsburgh. Game time for the doubleheader is slated for 11:00 a.m.
