Providence's Peterson Named ECAC Pitcher of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College freshman Melissa Peterson (Santa Ana, Calif.) was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division I Softball Pitcher of the Week, the ECAC Office announced today.

The freshman righthander won five of the seven games she started last week for the Friars. Peterson allowed just eight earned runs and recorded 32 strikeouts in 43 innings of work during the week. In a double header against Sacred Heart, she pitched 14 innings, struck out six batters and allowed no earned runs.

For the season, Peterson owns a team-best 1.69 earned run average with a 8-6 record on the mound. She has struck out 71 batters in 99.2 innings of work.

The Friars are currently 14-17 overall and 1-3 in the BIG EAST. PC returns to action on Thursday, April 13, when they travel to the University of Hartford for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
