Cancelled Event: Softball versus Tarleton State

Providence, R.I.- The University of Connecticut softball team scored the winning run in the last inning of both games with a sweep of Providence College, 2-1 and 4-3, this afternoon.
The Friars were ahead, 1-0, with senior Jami Servidone knocking a solo home run to right field in the top of the seventh inning of game one. But Jamine Blesoff led the Huskies to the 2-1 win with a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh. Barbara Cook earned her 15th victory on the mound for the Huskies, while Melissa Peterson fell to 11-11 for PC.
In game two, Connecticut took the lead first scoring one run in the fourth inning. Providence scored three runs in the fifth inning taking the 3-1 lead off three fielding errors. The Huskies then tied the game in the bottom of the fifth, capped off by a sarifice fly RBI from Mandy Simjian. In the bottom of the seventh, UConn's Blesoff hit a sacrific fly to right field to allow Jessica Yanosy to score the winning run. Cook was credited with the victory on the mound, pitching two complete innings.
After today's game, Connecticut improved to 28-13 overall and 10-4 in the BIG EAST, while Providence fell to 18-23 overall and 3-9 in the BIG EAST.
Providence returns to action on Thursday, April 27, when they host the Rams of the University of Rhode Island. Game time for the doubleheader is slated for 3:00 p.m.
