Quinnipiac Sweeps PC Softball

Hamden, Conn. - Junior Nicole Chaput hit a leadoff double and then scored on a double by senior Kelly Boyle in the bottom of the 11th inning, to lift Quinnipiac over Providence College, 1-0, in the first game of a doubleheader. The Braves went on to win the second game, 3-1.

In the first game, Quinnipiac senior pitcher Maureen McIntyre held Providence scoreless for 11 innings, scattering six hits, and fanning six batters. Chaput and Boyle led the Braves' offense, each going 2-for-4 at the plate with a double. For Providence, junior Kerri Jacklets (Sayville, N.Y.) led, going 3-for-5 at the plate.

In the second game, Quinnipiac jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first on a three-run home run by Chaput. Providence managed to score one in the fourth. The run came on a home run by Jacklets. Jacklets again led for Providence, going 2-for-3 at the plate. Quinnipiac senior pitcher Michele Meccia scattered five hits, and struck out four batters.
