Sal Papa Named To MAAC All-Academic Lacrosse Team

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College senior Salvatore Papa (Manchester, Conn.) was named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic Lacrosse Team on Thursday, May 4. To be eligible for the team, a student-athlete must have completed two semesters at the institution, must be a starter or significant reserve and must hold at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average.

Papa, a political science major with a 3.27 cumulative grade point average, served as a team captain this year. He played in 14 games and recorded one goal and two assists. Papa led the team in faceoffs percentage (.470) and recorded a team high 49 groundballs. Papa is the son of John and Rosemarie Papa. He is a 1996 graduate of Kingswood-Oxford.

Papa is one of four Friar lacrosse players named to the team. Junior Stephen Farina (Port Washington, N.Y.), senior Kevin Kelley (Needham, Mass.) and senior Conor McKenna (Manhasset, N.Y.) also earned Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic Lacrosse Team honors.

The Friars posted a 5-10 mark this season and a 4-5 record in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
