Storrs, Conn.-- The Providence College Field Hockey team was defeated by the University Louisville, 3-2 in overtime, in the second game of the IKON Husky Classic held at the University of Connecticut on Saturday, September 2.
Both the Cardinals and the Friars went scoreless in the first half. PC got on the board first as freshman Casey Geary (Norwood, Mass.) scored her first collegiate goal with an assist from sophomore Jennifer Chin (Norwood, Mass.) with 28:40 remaining in the second half. Louisville responded with two more goals, but the Friars tied it at two all as senior Breanne Wojnarowicz (Holden, Mass.) netted an unassisted goal with 4:22 left in the contest, forcing the game into overtime.
Louisville sealed the win as sophomore Susan Sattazahn scored the unassisted game-winner after playing less than two minutes into the 15-minute overtime.
Providence senior goalie Heather Tattersall (Bethlehem, N.H.) made 12 saves for the Friars. Christy Hershey recorded 12 saves as well between the pipes for Louisville.
The Cardinals outshot the Friars, 22-9. Louisville had nine penalty corners, while PC had seven.
Louisville improved to 2-1 on the season, while the Friars fell to 0-2 overall.
Providence returns to action on Sunday, September 3, when they take on the Hofstra University in the second round of the IKON Husky Classic. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Storrs, Conn.
