PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College freshman field hockey standout Casey Geary (Norwood, Mass.) was named the BIG EAST Conference Rookie of the Week for the week ending September 25, the league office announced earlier today.
Geary earned this award after a strong performance during a 2-1 week for the Friars. Her play was instrumental in the PC's first victory of the season, as she netted her third collegiate goal in a 2-0 win over St. Louis University.
Geary, one of seven freshmen on the team, is currently tied for first on her squad in scoring, registering three goals for six points.
Geary came to Providence after being named to the Top 60 Senior and the MSFHCA Massachusetts Senior All-Star Team while playing at Norwood High School. She was a two-time member of the Bay State Conference and Neponset Valley Daily News All-Star Teams. The midfielder/forward tallied 11 goals and 46 assists during her high school career.
Providence is currently 2-8 overall and 0-1 in the BIG EAST this season. The Friars are next in action on Wednesday, September 30, when they travel to Chestnut Hill, Mass., to take on the Boston College Eagles. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
