Providence Lacrosse Hands Hartford First Loss Of The Season

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence men's lacrosse team earned its second win of the season against an unbeaten Univeristy of Hartford, 11-10, Wednesday afternoon at Glay Field.

The Hawks entered the game with a 4-0 record, while Providence had earned only one win prior to the game, with a record of 1-5. Senior, Jim Dooley paced the Friar attack with two goals and a career-high six assists on the day. Dooley had only managed two assists in the first six games of the season before breaking out against the Hawks.

Skip Dunphy and Chris Houston tallied three goals each, while Kevin Kornobis netted two goals and registered one assist. Jon Meehan rounded out the offense with one goal. Junior transfer Kyle Ojakian collected three assists in the game, and moves his season total to 19.

The Friars never trailed in the game as they entered the fourth quarter with a 10-7 lead. The Hawks threatened in the quarter with three goals, but PC's Dunphy scored what proved to be the eventual game-winner, and the only Friar goal of the fourth quarter with 8:31 remaining in the game.

Kevin Garvey and Jamell Vanterpool scored two goals each to pace Hartford, while six other Hawks tallied one goal apiece.

Junior John Farley earned his second win in goal as he registered 10 saves. For Hartford, Rorke Greene started in the net before being relieved at the start of the second half by Paul Caracci. Greene made three saves and allowed seven goals in 30 minutes. Caracci took in four saves and allowed four goals in the losing effort.

The Friars will take on Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponent, Siena at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The game is scheduled to be played on Glay Field, on the campus of Providence College.
