POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Providence men's lacrosse team kept itself in the MAAC play-off hunt with a 9-5 win over Marist College on Saturday, April 21 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The victory marked the first road win of the season for Providence, and raises it's record 6-6 overall and 4-3 in the MAAC.
Skip Dunphy continues to produce big offensive numbers for PC, as he tallied six points on one goal and five assists. Jon Meehan, Chris Houston and Jim Dooley each scored two goals, while David Kole and Ryan Phillips tallied one goal apiece. Kyle Ojakian notched one assist in the win, and brings his season total to 35. He needs three more assists to tie the Providence school record for single-season assists (38), set in 1998.
In goal, John Farley stopped 18 shots for Providence. Marist goaltender Brian Schumeyer made 12 saves for the Red Foxes, who fall to 4-7 (3-6 MAAC).
Providence (6-6, 4-3 MAAC) has three more games on its regular-season schedule, two of which are against MAAC opponents Sacred Heart and Siena. A sweep of the remaining two conference games will clinch a spot in the MAAC playoffs, held in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on May 5-6.
