PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence men's lacrosse team earned an 8-7, come-from-behind victory over St. Joseph's on Sunday, March 8th. The win was the Friars fourth-straight victory, as the team improves to 5-5 overall, and 3-2 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action. Providence is unbeaten at home on Glay Field, where the team has earned all five of its wins this season.

Sophomore Skip Dunphy (Manhasset, N.Y.) led the Friars for a second-straight game. He scored six points on two goals and four assists. Kyle Ojakian (Cheshire, Conn.) tallied two goals and added two assists, followed by Jim Dooley (Maplewood, N.J.) with two goals and one assist, and Chris Houston (Garden City, N.Y.) with two goals.

St. Joseph's was led by Bert Whitelock's two goals and two assists. Ed Walsh added two goals for the Hawks as well, followed by one goal each from Kevin Callaghan, Tony Broderick and Rob McCracken. Randy McNeil tallied two assists for St. Joseph's.

The game was tied at 1-1 after the opening quarter, and Providence fell behind 3-1 going into halftime. Ojakian was the only Friar to find the back of the net in the first half, as McCracken scored in the first quarter for St. Joseph's, followed by one goal apiece from Broderick and Callaghan in the second. Both teams managed to score four goals in the third quarter, but Providence still trailed by two (7-5).

In the fourth and final quarter, the Friars scored three unanswered goals to take the lead, and the eventual 8-7 victory. Dunphy led off the quarter with a goal assisted by Dooley with 8:59 remaining in the game, to cut the deficit to one (7-6). Houston then notched his second goal of the game 58 seconds later, on an assist from Dunphy. Providence won the game with 5:13 remaining in the fourth, when Dooley connected on a pass from Ojakian.

John Farley (West Simsbury, Conn.) made 15 saves in goal for the Friars. He improves to 5-4 (3-2 MAAC). Nick Leopard made four saves in goal for the Hawks, who fall to 2-7 overall and 2-3 in the MAAC.

Providence (5-5, 3-2 MAAC) will travel to Manhattan for it's next game on Saturday, March 14th. The contest is scheduled to begin at 1:00.
