PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore goalkeeper Meaghan Moran (Framingham, Mass.) was selected as the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week in field hockey, for the week ending Sunday, September 9. The announcement was made by the BIG EAST Conference office on Monday, September 10.
Moran recorded her first career shutout against the University of Rhode Island on Wednesday, September 5, as the Friars beat the Rams 1-0. She followed up her performance against Rhode Island with a second shutout against Sacred Heart on Sunday, September 9. The Friars beat the Pioneers 2-0. Moran is currently tied for first-place among BIG EAST goalkeepers with two shutouts, and is ranked third in the conference with a 1.55 goals against average through four games.
Moran, a Framingham, Massachusetts native, is the daughter of Thomas and Bertha Moran. She played scholastically at Uxbridege High School, where she was a two-year captain.
Providence is currently 3-1 overall and is off to its best start since 1997, when the Friars started the season 8-0. PC will travel to Cambridge, Mass. to take on Harvard on Wednesday, September 12 at 7:00 p.m.
