Box Score

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Providence College softball team split a doubleheader at Quinnipiac University on Thursday, March 28, winning the first game, 5-0, and losing in the second game, 2-1. The games were being made up after Tuesday's rain-out. Freshman righthander Nicole Bartholomew (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) pitched the Friars (6-18 overall) to victory, recording her first career perfect game.

Bartholomew faced 21 batters and did not allow a Quinnipiac player to reach base, retiring 11 on strikeouts, eight on ground balls and two on fly ball outs. The rookie righthander, who pitched a no-hitter on March 16th at Winthrop University, struck out two batters in the first inning, one in the third, one in the fourth, two in the fifth and sixth and retired the side via the strikeout in the bottom of the seventh inning. Bartholomew became just the second pitcher in Providence softball history to pitch a perfect game, joining current PC assistant coach Amy Kvilhaug '96 as the only two to pitch a perfect contest. Bartholomew becomes the lone PC hurler to register both a no-hitter and a perfect game in a career.

Bartholomew got all the offense she would need in the third inning, as sophomore Cori Van Dusen (Riverside, Calif.) and freshman infielder Jaclyn Treveloni (Ashland, Mass.) hit two-run home runs to leftfield. Van Dusen doubled home freshman outfielder Jackie Karsnia (Spring, Texas) in the top of the seventh inning for PC's fifth run.

In the second game, the Friars managed just one run on a RBI single from sophomore outfielder Chrissy Iannolo (Syracuse, N.Y.) in the fourth inning. Quinnipiac scored twice in the bottom of the fourth inning on a RBI single down the third-base line by Sarah Collins.

The Friars return to action on Saturday, March 30 when they host BIG EAST foe Boston College at 12 noon at Providence College's Raymond Field.
