PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team was swept by Notre Dame in a BIG EAST Conference doubleheader, losing 8-0 and 11-0 in five innings, on Monday, April 29th at PC's Raymond Field.
In game one, the Friars managed just four hits while the Fighting Irish hit two home runs and totalled nine hits. The Irish got a three-run home run from Jarrah Myer in the first inning and Liz Hartmann connected on a solo homer in the second inning. UND added two runs in the top of the fourth and seventh innings in the win.
In game two, Providence totalled four hits again, but the Irish banged out 12 hits, including five home runs. UND opened the scoring when Myers singled in Alexis Madrid. Lisa Mattison gave the Irish a 3-0 lead with a two-run home run in the second inning. Andria Bledsoe increased Notre Dame's lead to 5-0 with her two-run homer and Carrie Wisen pushed the Irish's lead to 7-0 with her two-run home run. Andrea Loman and Mattison each hit two-run homers in the fourth inning to give Notre Dame an 11-0 lead.
The Friars return to action on Tuesday, April 30 when they host Brown University in a non-league doubleheader that begins at 3:00 p.m.
