PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Providence College field hockey team was defeated by Rutgers, 1-0, in double-overtime on Friday, October 10 in Piscataway, N.J. The Friars fall to 7-7 overall on the season and 0-2 in the BIG EAST Conference. Rutgers improves to 7-7 overall and 2-2 in the Conference.
Ashley Recker scored the game-winning goal for the Scarlet Knights with 11:22 remaining in the second overtime session on a penalty corner. The goal was assisted by Jennifer Noon and Megan Cech. Rutgers outshot Providence, 19-10, and held the advantage on penalty corners, 12-3. Senior goalkeeper Meaghan Moran (Framingham, Mass.) recorded seven saves in the loss for Providence. Aga Siemiginowska recorded seven saves for Rutgers.
Providence managed just four shots during regulation (all in the first half), but attempted six shots at the cage during two overtimes. Rutgers took 12 shots in regulation and attempted seven shots in overtime.
Providence (7-7, 0-2 BIG EAST) travels to Monmouth University (N.J.) for a non-conference game at Noon on Sunday, October 12.
