Head Coach Chris Burdick announced the appointment of senior Ben Brown (Ranch Santa Fe, Calif.) and juniors John Pynchon (Ipswich, Mass.) and Mark Rotella (Smithtown, N.Y.) to captain the 2004 Friar Lacrosse team. In addition, Ron Westgate (Forestdale, Mass.), only a sophomore, was named Assistant Captain.

"At Providence, we expect our captains to be willing to carry out assignments behind the scenes that move the organization toward the championship level," explained Burdick. "Captain is a role that carries numerous requirements including integrity to the championship model, loyalty to the championship commitment, and honest evaluation of individual and team effort. I feel confident that the individuals we have appointed carry the highest level of respect from the players and coaches, and will continue to lead by example, using straight talk and commitment based decision making."

"Ben Brown brings a military background (ROTC Scholarship) and will serve in his second term as a leader of this organization. John Pynchon is extremely gifted in his ability to work with people, is very organized, and is driven to succeed in this role. Mark Rotella has a fire for the game of lacrosse and already serves the entire athletic student body as a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Board."

Volunteer Coach Jim Mascia adds, "Ron is a great addition as Assistant Captain, with his work ethic and attitude he serves as a great role model to help work with the off-the-field development of our younger players."
