MEN'S LACROSSE GAME PREVIEWProvidence College vs. University of HartfordWednesday, April 2, 2003 * 3:30 p.m.Glay Field - Providence, R.I.

Providence College (2-4, 2-0 MAAC): The Providence College men's lacrosse team is scheduled to host the University of Hartford in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Tuesday, April 2 at 3:30 p.m. The Friars enter Wednesday's game with a 2-4 overall record and hold a 2-0 mark in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Providence is coming off of a 5-4 overtime victory against MAAC foe Canisius on March 31 in Providence, R.I. Sophomore midfielder John Hollister (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal for the Friars 1:16 into the first overtime session to earn the win. Hollister added an assist on the game-tying goal in the fourth quarter. Freshman Tom Kelly (Henniker, N.H.) scored two goals, while junior Ryan Russell (Montvale, N.J.) and junior Kevin Kornobis (Merrick, N.Y.) added one goal each in the win. Sophomore goaltender Andrew McMinn (Pittsburgh, Pa.) recorded the win with eight saves. McMinn improved to 2-3 overall with the win and 2-0 in the MAAC. Hollister and senior Jon Meehan (Peabody, Mass.) lead the Friar offense with 10 points each. Both players have recorded five goals and five assists through six games. Kornobis is second on the team in scoring (eight points) with a team-leading six goals and two assists. McMinn has played 322 minutes in the cage this season. He has recorded 71 saves, 19 groundballs, a .670 save percentage and a 6.52 goals against average. Chris Burdick is in the midst of his fifth season as the men's lacrosse coach at Providence College. Burdick is 2-2 all-time versus the Hawks in his coaching career. In 2002, Hartford defeated Providence, 16-9, in Hartford, Conn. The last time PC defeated Hartford was during the 2001 season (11-10) in Providence, R.I.

University of Hartford Hawks (2-5, 0-0 America East): The University of Hartford men's lacrosse team enters Wednesday's game against Providence with a 2-5 overall record. The Hawks are in the midst of a four-game losing streak that dates back to a 13-5 loss at Brown (Providence, R.I.) on March 18. Hartford's last win was on March 15, as it defeated Holy Cross, 15-9, in Worcester, Mass. Hartford is coming off of a 10-6 loss to Dartmouth on March 29. Senior Tom Fallica led the Hartford effort with two goals. Senior Tom Eckler leads the Hawk offense through the first seven games of the season with 22 points on a team-leading 13 goals and nine assists. Fallica and freshman Garett Kikot are tied for second in scoring with eight points each. Fallica has five goals and three assists this season, while Kikot has recorded four goals and four assists. Senior Rorke Greene has played 375 minutes in goal for Hartford in seven games. He has posted a 10.56 goals against average, a .554 save percentage and 82 saves.
