DURHAM, N.H. - The Providence College field hockey team fell to Albany, 2-1, in non-conference action on Sunday, September 26, 2004 at Memorial Field in Durham, N.H. Providence falls to 4-7 overall on the season, while Albany improves to 4-5.
Sophomore forward Jessica Weinstein (Bridgeton, N.J.) scored the games first goal of the afternoon to give the Friars a 1-0 lead. Weinstein scored 11:24 into the first half as she collected a rebound off the pads of Great Dane goalkeeper Barbara Czaplinski and knocked it into the back of the cage. It marked Weinstein's second goal of the season. PC held the Great Danes scoreless in the first half and took the 1-0 advantage into halftime.
In the second half, Albany managed to tie the game with 9:58 remaining on the clock as Kristi Clausi connected on a penalty stroke. With 2:10 left in the game, Albany's Kristen Holder scored the game winner off an assist from Alexis Johnson.
Senior goalkeeper Meredith Jones (Lake Forest, Ill.) made eight saves for PC in the loss. Czaplinski stopped nine shots in goal for Albany. The game featured two green cards, three yellow cards and two penalty strokes. The Great Danes converted one of two penalty stroke attempts.
Providence (4-7, 0-1 BIG EAST) returns to action on Wednesday, September 29 against Massachusetts in a non-conference tilt. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be played in Amherst, Mass.
