PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team was defeated by New Hampshire, 1-0, on October 16 at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I. UNH improves to 6-10 overall, while the Friars drop to 5-11 on the season.
Katie White scored what proved to be the game-winning goal for the Wildcats 29:43 into the first half of action. White's goal was assisted by Kara Napolitano. UNH outshot Providence, 12-9, including a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal. Each team recorded eight penalty corners.
Freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Scavelli (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) made four saves for Providence. Junior Melissa McGow (Branford, Conn.) picked up a defensive save for the Friars during a UNH penalty corner. Margaux Shute earned the shut-out victory for the Wildcats with four saves.
The Friars will play their final regular-season home game on Wednesday, October 19 against cross-town rival Brown at 4:00 p.m. Providence finishes the regular-season schedule with road games against BIG EAST foes Villanova and Connecticut.
