Men's Lacrosse Team Announces 2006 Schedule

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's lacrosse program announced its 2006 schedule on Tuesday, November 15. The schedule features two teams that participated in the 2005 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship, including Fairfield and Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foe Marist. The Friars also will face off against non-conference opponents Dartmouth and North Carolina.

Providence opens the 2006 regular-season schedule on February 25 against Dartmouth at 1:00 p.m. The match-up will mark the first-ever lacrosse game played at PC's newly completed Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. Following the Friars' home opener with Dartmouth, they will play two consecutive games at neutral sites. On March 4, the Friars will face Vermont at Branford High School in Branford, Conn. A start time for the PC vs. UVM game is yet to be determined. On March 10, Providence will take on Yale at Broward Prep in Boca Raton, Fla. at 7:00 p.m.

The Friars begin their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) schedule with St. Joseph's on March 18 at Noon in Philadelphia, Pa. PC follows with two more MAAC games versus Wagner and Canisius. The Friars host Wagner on March 25 in Providence, R.I. at 2:00 p.m. The team then travels to Buffalo, N.Y. to face Canisius on April 1 at 11:00 a.m.

Providence returns home to face 2005 NCAA Tournament participant Fairfield on April 5 at 7:00 p.m. The match-up marks the only night game of the 2006 season. On April 8, Providence travels to Loudonville, N.Y. to face MAAC foe Siena at 3:00 p.m.

PC returns to Rhode Island for a two-game home stand against MAAC opponents VMI and Manhattan. The Friars face VMI on April 15 at 1:00 p.m. and Manhattan on April 19 at 4:00 p.m.

On April 22, the Friars take to the road for a non-conference game against Quinnipiac at 1:00 p.m. in Hamden, Conn., before returning home to face North Carolina on April 23. The game versus the Tar Heels is set for 1:00 p.m.

On April 26, the Friars will look to avenge their 2005 MAAC semifinal loss to Marist as they face the Red Foxes at 4:00 p.m. in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Marist won the 2005 MAAC Championship crown and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

The Friars conclude their regular-season schedule against Mount St. Mary's on April 29 at 1:00 p.m. in Providence, R.I.

The 2006 MAAC Championship tournament is scheduled to begin on Friday, March 5 with two semifinal games at Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y. The winners of the two semifinal games advance to the MAAC Championship game, set for Sunday, March 7 in Buffalo, N.Y.
