CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Providence College softball team capped off an undefeated day at the Charleston Invitational on Friday, March 4 with a 3-0 victory over Furman. Earlier in the day, Providence upset No. 5 Tennessee, 1-0.

In the game against Furman, freshman Tanza Lewis (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just two hits and striking out four batters. In six games this season, the Friars have posted five shutouts and have only allowed five runs.

The Friars scored the lone run they would need in the first inning as they collected three hits, including an RBI single by freshman Sam Pittman (San Diego, Calif.). Sophomore Elena Romero (Chula Vista, Calif.) connected on her first home run of the season in the third inning as PC increased its lead to 2-0. Providence added another run in the fifth inning to seal the victory.

Providence is back in action on Saturday, March 5 at the Charleston Southern Invitational. The Friars will play Northern Colorado at 2:00 p.m. and Morehead State at 4:00 p.m.
