CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Providence College softball team played three games at the Charleston Southern Invitational on Saturday, March 5. The Friars were defeated by Northern Colorado, 6-2, but rebounded to shut out Moorehead State, 6-0. However, Providence also was defeated by Tennessee Tech, 2-1, in nine innings in the single elimination round.
Against Northern Colorado, the Bears took a 6-0 lead in the fifth inning and never looked back. The Friars were led by senior Jackie Karsnia (Spring, Texas) who hit her first home run of the season.
In the second game, freshman Tanza Lewis (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) posted her second consecutive shut out as PC cruised to a 6-0 win. PC had 12 hits, including Karsnia's second home run of the season and Sam Pittman's first collegiate home run. Pittman drove in three of PC's six runs.
The Friars fell, 2-1, against Tennessee Tech in nine innings as they were eliminated. Senior Nicole Bartholomew (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) had another strong outing on the mound as she allowed just six hits and struck out 11 batters. Senior Kalena Petersen (Mission Viejo, Calif.) drove in PC's run with a double.
