PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team defeated Siena, 10-2, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action on Saturday, April 16 at Glay Field in Providence, R.I. Senior face-off specialist Mark Rotella (Smithtown, N.Y.) led the Friars in the victory with 14 wins at the face-off "X" in 15 attempts. Senior Jonathan Hollister (Longmeadow, Mass.) contributed a game-high three points on two goals and one assist for PC.

The Friars jumped out to 3-0 lead before the Saints gained their first offensive possession. Junior Mark Seyer (Kirkwood, Mo.) tallied the game's first goal at the 13:08 mark off an assist from freshman Robert Lamontagne (Pittsford, N.Y.). Sophomore Mark Dillon (Gaithersburg, Md.) put the Friars up 2-0 with 12:17 on the clock off a feed from junior Tom Kelly (Henniker, N.H.). Senior Sean Kirwan (Drexel Hill, Pa.) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal off an assist from sophomore Bennett Murphy (Princeton, N.J.) at the 11:32 mark. The Friars closed out the first quarter with a 4-0 lead on an unassisted goal from senior Dan Giuntini (Floral Park, N.Y.) with 7:44 to play.

Providence held Siena scoreless for the second-straight quarter and scored a goal of its own to gain a 5-0 advantage at halftime. Dillon was credited with the Friars' only goal of the quarter at the 5:01 mark from Hollister.

In the third quarter, the Saints got on the scoreboard with their first goal of the afternoon to make the score 5-1. Greg Pelatti netted the goal, unassisted, at the 5:48 mark with a two-man advantage. Giuntini answered for Providence with 1:24 left in the quarter, unassisted, to give the Friars a 6-1 lead.

Providence scored four-straight goals in the fourth quarter to take a 10-1 lead. Seyer netted his second goal of the afternoon at the 12:10 mark during a man-up situation with an assist from Murphy. With 9:20 left to play, freshman Devin McBride (Marblehead, Mass.) scored his second goal of the season off a feed from sophomore Brendan Ryan (Chatham, N.J.). Hollister scored back-to-back, unassisted goals at the 8:29 and 7:38 marks, respectively to finish the scoring for PC. Siena scored its second and final goal of the afternoon with 7:16 remaining in the game as Ted Moran scored off an assist from Greg Powell.

Senior Andrew McMinn (Pittsburgh, Pa.) earned the victory for PC between the pipes with 10 saves in 58:38 minutes of action. He was replaced by junior Ron Westgate (Forestdale, Mass.) with 1:22 left in the game. Westgate made one save and did not allow a goal. David Jalette played all 60 minutes for Siena in the cage and made 11 saves.

Providence outshot Siena, 33-28, and won 14-of-16 face offs in the game. Siena held the edge in groundballs, 31-29.

Providence (4-7, 3-1 MAAC) will return to action on Wednesday, April 20 against Marist in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match-up. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. at Glay Field in Providence, R.I.
