IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Providence College field hockey team lost to Ball State, 2-1, on Saturday, September 10 on the campus of the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. The Friars led the game, 1-0, at halftime on a goal from sophomore Abby Maguire (Southbury, Conn.), but could not hold on to the lead as Ball State scored two unanswered goals in the second half.
Maguire put Providence ahead 16:56 into the game off an assist from junior Melissa McGow (Branford, Conn.). The Friars took the lead into halftime. In the second half, Chantel Isaac-Smith scored both Ball State goals within 12-seconds of one another, and each goal was unassisted. Isaac-Smith's first goal came at 44:04. She netted what proved to be the game winner at 44:16.
Friar goalkeeper Stephanie Scavelli (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) registered eight saves for Providence in the loss. Tracy Bannister made five saves for Ball State.
Providence (2-3) returns to action on Sunday, September 11 against Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. (ET). The Friars return home to face in-state rival Rhode Island on Friday, September 16. The game will be played at PC's Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I. at 7:00 p.m.
