Providence College (0-1, 0-0 BIG EAST): The Providence College field hockey team hosts two non-conference games this weekend at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I. On Saturday, September 3, the Friars host Vermont at Noon. PC also host's Northeastern on Sunday, September 4 at 1:00 p.m. The Friars enter the weekend with an 0-1 record, having lost their season opener to Ohio, 2-1, on August 28. Sophomore Abby Maguire (Southbury, Conn.) scored the Friars' lone goal in the game. Providence outshot Ohio, 14-8, and held the advantage in penalty corners, 6-4. The Friars' starting line-up featured two seniors, four juniors, three sophomores and two freshmen. It marked the first-ever contest played at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. Freshman Stephanie Scavelli (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) made her collegiate debut for Providence in goal. She made two saves in the Friar effort. The Friars are 3-0 all-time versus Vermont under the direction of fourth-year head coach Diane Madl. Overall, the Friars hold a 6-0 lead in the all-time series versus Vermont. The 2005 season marks the first meeting between Providence and Northeastern during Madl's tenure. In 18 meetings all-time, Northeastern leads the series 11-5-2. The Friars won the last meeting between the two schools, 3-2, in double-overtime in Providence, R.I. during the 1997 season.
VERMONT (1-1, 0-0 America East): The Catamounts enter Saturday's game with a 1-1 record. UVM defeated Bucknell, 2-1, in overtime in the season-opener. In Vermont's most recent game, the team fell to Lock Haven, 3-0. Kari Furlani and Emily Fitzgerald have each scored one goal for Vermont. Megan Maynard has been credited with an assist. Erin Hickey has been the Catamount's primary goalkeeper through the first two games. She has allowed four goals and has made 13 saves. She owns a 1.92 goals against average and a 0.765 save percentage.
NORTHEASTERN (1-1, 0-0 Colonial Athletic Association): Northeastern has compiled a 1-1 record through its first two games and has another game scheduled for Friday before travelling to Providence. The Huskies opened the season with a 7-2 victory against Ohio on August 27. On August 28, Northeastern suffered a 3-2 loss to Indiana. On Friday, September 2, the Huskies travel to Massachusetts for a 7:00 p.m. game with the Minutewomen. Through two games, Lauren Edelmeier leads Northeastern with six points on three goals. Ashley Webber has tallied two goals for four points, while Natalie Singelais ranks third on the team in scoring with three points on three assists. Liz Centofanti has played each game for the Huskies in goal. She has allowed five goals and has made six saves through two games. She owns a 2.50 goals against average and a 0.545 save percentage.
