PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The 16th-ranked Providence College field hockey team defeated Boston University, 1-0, on Wednesday, September 13 at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I. With the victory, the Friars remain unbeaten with a 7-0 overall record. Boston University falls to 2-3 on the season.

Senior forward Melissa McGow (Branford, Conn.) scored the game-winning goal for the Friars with 1:57 remaining in the game as junior Abby Maguire (Southbury, Conn.) fed her with a ball at the left post from the middle of the circle. McGow redirected the pass into the cage. It marked her third goal of the year, and first game winner this season.

Boston University controlled the first half of play, outshooting Providence 6-0 in the opening 35 minutes. Each of BU's six shots in the first half were on goal, while the Friars were unable to get a single shot off in their offensive end.

After halftime, the Friars managed to outshoot Boston University, 10-6. Five of the Friars' 10 shots were on goal. The Terriers held a 12-10 advantage in shots overall, including a 10-5 edge in shots on goal. Both teams were awarded six penalty corners each.

Freshman goalkeeper Rachel Chamberlain (Branford, Conn.) recorded her fourth shut out of the season on eight saves. She received help from her defensive unit on two occasions, as McGow and junior Kiley Morgart (Mountaintop, Pa.) each registered a defensive save. Boston University goalkeeper Erin Prediger made four saves in the loss.

PC's four shut-out victories this season are the most since the 2001 campaign when the Friars finished the year with six.
