PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team fell to 16th-ranked Louisville, 2-1, on Sunday, September 30 at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I.
Sophomore Nellie Poulin (Oakland, Maine) gave the Friars an early, 1-0, lead as she deflected the ball into the back of the cage off of a free hit taken by junior Jessica Lane (South Windsor, Conn.). The goal came just 11:35 into the game.
The Cardinals evened the score, 1-1, as Janelle Avila took the ball into the circle and hard shot into the cage at the 25:44 mark. The score remained tied into the halftime break.
Louisville scored what proved to be the game winner just 1:55 into the second half as Case Diener tipped in a pass from Nicole Youman.
The Cardinals held a 9-8 advantage in shots, but the Friars placed seven shots on goal compared to Louisville's six shots on goal. Each team recorded three penalty corners.
Sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Chamberlain (Branford, Conn.) made four saves in the loss for PC. Marie-Claire Heller registered six saves for Louisville.
