Final Stats

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The 20th-ranked Providence College field hockey team posted a 6-2 victory over Brown on October 22 in a non-conference match-up. The game was played on Warner Roof on the campus of Brown University.

The victory helped the Friars rebound from a three-game skid, as the team improves to 10-8 on the season. The Bears fall to 3-10 on the year.

The game had a rocky start as the Bears took a 1-0 lead on their first corner attempt of the game. Victoria Sacco scored the goal off a feed from Katie Hyland just 1:35 into the contest.

The Friars responded with four-unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead at the break. Sophomore Ashlyn Hudson (Stoughton, Mass.) tied the game, 1-1, with an unassisted tally at 15:25. Less than a minute later at 16:14, junior Nellie Poulin (Oakland, Maine) recorded her first goal of the game and 11th of the season as she scored off a pass from Jessica Lane (South Windsor, Conn.). The Friars kept pouring it on offensively as sophomore Julie Ruggieri (Barrington, R.I.) collected a crossing pass from sophomore Jaime Lipski (Dallas, Pa.) and slipped it into the cage at 17:53. Poulin then registered her second tally of the game and 12th of the season off a feed from Lipski at 18:49 to close out the first half attack and take a 4-1 lead into halftime.

The second half saw the Friars take a 5-1 lead in the 45th minute as Lipski scored her first goal of the game off a pass from Ruggieri.

Brown finally halted the Friars' momentum with a goal from Leslie Springmeyer at 46:03, that was assisted by Nora Malgieri.

The Friars, however, got the last word by scoring their sixth goal of the afternoon at 56:05. Lane was credited with the goal, unassisted, as she ripped a shot from the right side of the circle into the far left post.

The Friars return to action on Sunday, October 26 at Noon against BIG EAST foe Georgetown. The game will be played at the University of Maryland in College Park, Md.
