Final Stats

PRINCETON, N.J. - Princeton seniors Holly McGarvie and Kraftin Schreyer scored second half goals as the 12th-ranked Princeton field hockey team defeated Providence, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at Class of '52 Stadium in Princeton, N.J. The win was Princeton's sixth in a row and its third shutout of the season. The Friars had their three-game win streak snapped with the loss and fall to 8-5 on the season.

Princeton outplayed Providence early in the first half, but the tables turned midway through the period as the Friars put some pressure on the Tigers late in the half. Princeton had the shot edge 13-7 in the half, but was outcornered 6-5, as neither team was able to score.

The Tiger pressure eventually got to the Friars as Princeton got on the scoreboard three minutes into the second half with a goal in the 38th minute. Schreyer's shot off a corner was stopped by Providence goalkeeper Rachel Chamberlain and she was able to stop a follow up shot on the rebound, but McGarvie found the second rebound and scored on a reverse shot backhanded to put the Tigers ahead 1-0. The goal was her eighth of the season, which tied her for the team lead in the category.

The game remained tight from that point until the Tigers added an insurance tally in the 59th minute from Schreyer. The goal came on a direct corner conversion as senior Katie Kinzer pushed the ball to senior Candice Arner and she stopped it for Schreyer, whose blast beat Chamberlain through the legs. Schreyer's goal was her fifth of the year and her third in the last two games.

Princeton doubled up Providence 22-11 in shots and had 10 corners to the Friars' eight. Princeton junior goalkeeper Cynthia Wray made four saves to notch her first shutout of the season and improve to 5-1 on the year. Chamberlain made 14 saves in front of the Friar cage.

The Friars will return to action on Saturday, October 11 against BIG EAST foe Rutgers at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I.
