Cancelled Event: Softball versus Tarleton State

ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Providence College softball team split a pair of games at the Winthrop Adidas Invitational on Friday, March 14 in Rock Hill, S.C. The Friars were defeated by Charlotte, 4-2, in the first game and rebounded to post an 8-5 victory over Memphis in the second contest.
In the game against Charlotte, the Friars took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when junior Mary Rose Sheehy hit a double to score sophomore Katelynn Revens, who had singled and stolen second base. However, the 49ers bounced back in the fourth inning as they evened the score at 1-1. Charlotte took a 4-1 lead in the fifth inning when Jaime West hit a three-run home run. Junior Gina Rossi hit her first home run of the season in the seventh inning to cut the lead to 4-2, but the Friars could not get any closer.
In the second game, the Friars trailed, 3-1, going into the bottom of the third inning, but they scored three times to take a 4-3 lead. Sophomore Jenna Garcia highlighted the third inning with a two-run home run. In the fifth inning, Sheehy hit a grand slam to give the Friars an 8-3 lead. Junior Jennifer Maccio earned the win as she pitched four innings, while freshman Kathryn Sullivan pitched the last three innings. Garcia finished with two hits and four runs, while Sheehy had two hits and four RBIs.
The Friars are back in action on Saturday, March 15 when they play Gardner-Webb and Vermont.
