In the first half, the Friars got off to an early, 2-0, during the first 6:16 of play. At 11:49, Lipski struck again to give the Friars a 3-1 lead as she deflected a pass from sophomore Julie Ruggieri (Barrington, R.I.) near the right post. The score remained 3-1 until the Black Bears tallied a late goal with just 43-seconds left in the half to cut the lead to one (3-2). Jocelyn Mitchell carried the ball down the right side of the field into the circle and fired a shot into the back of the cage.

Grogan got the Friars back on track for a 4-2 lead at 51:45 as she connected off a direct shot on a penalty corner, assisted by junior Meghan Holden (Worcester, Mass.) and junior Adrienne Marois (Auburn, Mass.) Poulin then put the Friars ahead 5-2 59:46 on a tip in assisted by Marois. Sophomore Julie Ruggieri (Barrington, R.I.) added another goal for the Friars, unassisted, at 63:12 to give Providence a 6-2 advantage.
