Field Hockey Game Preview

Providence, R.I. - PROVIDENCE COLLEGE (5-9, 2-3 BIG EAST): The Providence College field hockey team hosts Brown University on Tuesday, October 20 at 7:00 p.m. The Friars are coming off a 4-3 overtime loss to No. 5 Wake Forest on October 17.

Providence's leading point scorer this season is Nellie Poulin (Oakland, Maine) Poulin has 22 points on 10 goals and two assists. Juniors Ashlyn Hudson (Stoughton, Mass.) and Julie Ruggieri (Barrington, R.I.) are second and third, respectivley, on the team in points. Hudson has 13 points on five goals and three assists while, Ruggieri has 12 points on five goals and two assists.

Junior Kelly Grogan (Allenwood, N.J.) has scored a goal in each of the past three games for the Friars. Grogan, who set her single-season career-high in goals with three, was named to the BIG EAST honor roll this past week.

Senior Rachel Chamberlain (Branford, Conn.) has seen 796 minutes in the cage for the Friars. Chamberlain holds a 2.46 goals against average and a .699 save percentage.

Under the guidance of head coach Diane Madl, the Friars are 5-2 against Brown. The Friars have won the past five meetings against the Bears, including a 6-2 victory at Brown last season. On Saturday, October 24 at 1 :00 p.m. the Friars face Georgetown at home in the final BIG EAST Conference game of the season. There will be a pre-game ceremony honoring each of the eight seniors on the team.

BROWN UNIVERSITY (4-8, 0-4 IVY LEAGUE): The Brown field hockey team enters the match coming off a 5-1 loss against No. 4 Princeton on Saturday, October 17. Brown is led by sophomores Leslie Springmeyer and Kit Masini. Springmeyer leads the team with 17 points on six goals and five assists. Masini is second on the team with 13 points on five goals and three assists. Caroline Washburn has seen the majority of minutes in the cage for the Bears. Washburn has a 5.19 goals against average and a .692 save percentage.
