Field Hockey Game Preview

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - PROVIDENCE COLLEGE (8-9, 3-3 BIG EAST): The Providence College field hockey team travels to Cambridge, Mass. to face non-conference opponent Boston University on Friday, October 30 at 3:00 p.m. The game will be held at Jack Barry Field on the campus of MIT. The Friars are coming off a 4-0 victory against Maine on October 25. The victory against Maine was the fourth shutout of the season for the Friars.

Senior Nellie Poulin (Oakland, Maine) leads the Friars in scoring with 28 points on 13 goals and two assists. Juniors Ashlyn Hudson (Stoughton, Mass.) and Julie Ruggieri (Barrington, R.I.) are second and third, respectively, on the team in points. Hudson has 21 points on nine goals and three assists while Ruggieri has 17 points on seven goals and three assists.

Senior goalkeeper Rachel Chamberlain (Branford, Conn.) has seen 982 minutes in the cage for the Friars. Chamberlain holds a 2.14 goals against average and a .720 save percentage. Last week, Chamberlain was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week. She allowed only two goals in a 3-0 week for the Friars. She provided 12 saves on the week and recorded her second shutout of the season in the victory against Maine.

Providence has outscored its opponents, 49-33, on the season. The Friars also hold the advantage in shots, 226-221, and shots on goal, 147-129. Adrienne Marois (Auburn, Mass.) has scored a point in each of the past six games for the Friars, including a four point game (1 goal, 2 assists) against Georgetown on October 24.

Under the guidance of head coach Diane Madl, the Friars are 1-2 against Boston University. The Friars lost the past two meetings against the Terriers, including a 2-0 defeat in Providence last season. On Sunday, November 1 at 1:00 p.m. the Friars face Vermont in the final regular-season game of the 2009 season. Providence is 5-2 against Vermont under Diane Madl.

BOSTON UNIVERSITY (7-10, 3-1 AMERICA EAST): The Boston University field hockey team enters the match coming off a 2-0 loss against Albany on Saturday, October 24. The Terriers are led by junior Allie Dolce who leads the team in points with 18. Dolce's points have come off five goals and eight assists. Freshman Jacinda McLeod is second on the team in scoring with 15 points on six goals and three assists. Junior goalkeeper Amanda Smith has started all seventeen games this season for the Terriers. Smith currently has a 1.96 goals against average and a .625 save percentage.

UNIVERSITY OF VERMONT (1-15, 0-4 AMERICA EAST): The University of Vermont has a 1-15 record on the 2009 season. The Catamounts are led in scoring by Megan Maynard who has 10 points on four goals and two assists. In 1087 minutes, Kristen Heavens has posted a 2.98 goals against average and a .802 save percentage. Before their meeting with the Friars, Vermont will face Fairfield University on Saturday, October 31 at 12:00 p.m.
