PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior goaltender Robert Bryan (Apex, N.C.) was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, March 30 after leading the Friars to a 5-4 win over Canisius on Saturday. The award is Bryan's first in 2009 and the fourth of his career.
Against the Golden Griffins, Bryan tied a personal best with 16 saves while allowing only four goals for a .800 save percentage. Bryan made an impressive seven saves in the first quarter and made three critical stops in the final quarter to maintain the Friars' one-goal advantage.
On the year, the 5-7 goaltender has played 421:31 minutes in the cage, recording 86 saves and allowing 59 goals for a 8.40 goals against average and .593 save percentage. During the Friars' current four-game win streak, Bryan has posted a 4.53 goals against average and a .707 save percentage.
Bryan also earned MAAC Defensive Player of the Week Honors on March 17 and 31 and April 14 of 2008.
The Friars return to action on Saturday, April 4 when they face off against MAAC foe Saint Joseph's at 2:00 p.m. at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. Admission is free.
