PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College senior outfielder Mary Rose Sheehy (Woodbridge, Conn.) was named to the NFCA All-Region Team on Wednesday, May 14. It marks the first time that Sheehy has earned the honor.
Sheehy, who also was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team on May 6, becomes the first Providence player to earn NFCA All-Region honors since Rachel Bartholomew did it in 2007. Sheehy played in 50 of the 51 games and led Providence in numerous offensive categories, including batting average (.387), hits (60), doubles (12), triples (4), RBIs (35) and slugging percentage (.632). Her .387 batting average this season is the fourth highest single season mark at Providence College.
Sheehy finished her career at Providence as the school's all-time leader with a .348 average. She also finished fourth with 107 RBIs, third with a .528 slugging percentage and tied for fifth with 18 home runs. Last season, she set a PC single season record with 34 walks and finished with 75 overall, which is second all-time.
