Providence College Field Hockey Hosts No. 10 Louisville

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - PROVIDENCE COLLEGE (4-12, 0-4 BIG EAST): The Providence College field hockey team returns to action on Saturday, October 23, when it hosts to No. 10 Louisville at 1:00 p.m. The game will be held at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I. In their last outing, the Friars fell to Brown, 2-1, in penalty strokes, on October 20.

Senior Ashlyn Hudson (Stoughton, Mass.) leads the team in scoring with seven points on three goals and one assist. Fellow senior Julie Ruggieri (Barrington, R.I.) is second on the team in scoring this season with six points on two goals and two assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Kathi Weidman (Millersville, Pa.) has seen 610 minutes of action and has posted a 2.75 goals against average with a .652 save percentage.

Last season, the Friars fell to the Cardinals, 3-2, in Louisville, Ky. Providence is 1-5 against Louisville since the Cardinals joined the BIG EAST in 2005. The last time Providence defeated Louisville was in the semifinals of the 2007 BIG EAST Tournament. In the match the Friars defeated the Cardinals, 2-0.

The six senior members of the team; Hudson, Ruggieri, Joscelyn Mahon (Shavertown, Pa.), Kelly Grogan (Allenwood, N.J.), Christine Sideris (Watertown, Mass.) and Jaime Lipski (Dallas, Pa.) will all be honored in a pre-game ceremony.

UNIVERSITY OF LOUISVILLE (11-5, 4-1 BIG EAST): No. 10 Louisville enters the match coming off a 4-1 victory against Iowa on October 17. Nicole Youman leads the BIG EAST in scoring with 48 points. She has tallied 15 goals and 18 assists on the season. Amber Thomas and Hayley Turner each have posted 18 points on the season. Thomas has registered eight goals and two assists while Turner has posted six goals and six assists. Erin Conrad has seen 1,189 minutes in cage for the Cardinals. In 16 starts, she has recorded five shutouts and owns a 1.41 goals against average with a .684 save percentage.
